John Arthur is one of our country’s most renowned classroom teachers, advocating for students and public schools at the local, state, and national level. He is the 2021 Utah Teacher of the Year, a National Teacher of the Year Finalist, and the Council for Exceptional Children’s 2024 General Education Teacher of the Year for his work supporting students with disabilities. With a career devoted to empowering students and advocating for educators, John brings unparalleled passion and expertise to his work, and he will bring that same level of dedication to the Utah State Legislature as the representative for House District 41.

 

John Arthur is also a proud leader among Utah Democrats. The recipient of the 2025 Democratic Dreamers Award from the Salt Lake County Democrats, John serves as the Chair of the Education Caucus for the county party and as a member of the Executive Committee for the Utah Democratic Party. And when everyday Utahns pushed back against HB267 last year with their statewide referendum, John Arthur rose as a leading voice in what would become the most successful signature-gathering effort in Utah history! 

 

Beyond the classroom, John is the Co-Director of the Teacher Fellows, a nonprofit dedicated to developing the next generation of Utah teacher leaders, as well as Director of Candidate Recruitment for the Utah National Board Coalition. He serves on the Board of Directors for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, SpyHop, IncludEd United, and Voices for Utah Children.
